Modern YorPower UPS Upgrade Protects Emergency Lighting
Project overview
YorPower replaced the site’s old emergency lighting units with two new 6kVA YorPower Centro UPS systems. The upgrade gives the customer a more modern, space-saving installation while maintaining three hours of backup for the emergency lighting.
The challenge
The batteries in both existing systems had failed. YorPower advised that, in this condition, they were unlikely to provide the three-hour autonomy required to keep the emergency lighting operating during a power failure.
Battery replacement was the minimum recommendation. However, YorPower recommended replacing both systems with modern Central Power Supply System (CPSS) units to provide a complete upgrade.
The solution
YorPower supplied, installed and commissioned two 6kVA YorPower Centro UPS systems, each configured with a different battery arrangement:
- System one: 6kVA YorPower Centro UPS with four strings of 9Ah batteries
- System two: 6kVA YorPower Centro UPS with two strings of 9Ah batteries
- Both systems: an SNMP adapter and an internal communication card
This equipment provided the replacement systems and communication components needed for the installation. The different battery configurations were supplied as specified for each unit.
Installation and commissioning
YorPower’s engineers carried out the supply, installation and commissioning of both systems. The old emergency lighting units were replaced with the new Centro UPS equipment, giving the site a more compact arrangement.
The outcome
The new YorPower Centro units take up less space while continuing to provide the three hours of backup required for the emergency lighting. The site now benefits from modernised UPS systems and the reliable emergency lighting support it needs.
