Backup Diesel Generator for Mixed use Development in London
Introduction and Background:
Yorkshire based leading generator company, YorPower, has recently supplied a 33kVA Cummins powered generator in Shoreditch, London. The Borough of Hackney is an up-and-coming region on the trendier side of London with increasing opportunities for commercial-use buildings as well as real-estate.
With house prices booming as well as the remarkable growth that has occurred in the Hackney Borough over the past 20 years – businesses and services, new residents and tourists continue to flock like magnets to the area. Such rapid growth provides for massive opportunities but this comes with its inherent challenges. Even in London there is a threat of a power cut and with businesses ever more dependent on power 24/7/365 back up generators are essential. Standby Power systems that YorPower provide are usually bespoke and designed in house by the projects team. The expansion of the tech industry in the area means an increasing need for expansive work spaces and reliable back-up generator systems. YorPower provide power systems for data centres and businesses throughout London with a range of generators from 20-3000kW
Application:
Following the demolition of a filing station, a new 6 storey mixed use development has been erected (flats and commercial property) including 868 sqm of restaurant and café floor space on ground and basement floors and 2,884 sqm business floor space on the first to fifth floors. In order to to support the essential services in the building, a backup diesel generator was required to deliver power in the event of a mains failure.
Primary choice factor:
YorPower’s longstanding relationship with the M and E Contractor and proven track record was the primary reason for selection.
Development by:
Max Barney Development Ltd
Installation and Delivery
Yorpower logistics team organised the despatch and transport of all equipment including, the generator, ATS panel, Cable connection box and control panels. The generator will be positioned on the roof of the building and a road closure was required in order to position the 60 tonne crane.
Commissioning
The genset is due to be commissioned in late February 2019
