Cummins backup power supply for Welsh Power Station
February 7, 2019
YorPower recently completed a large-scale project, providing back up power for a Welsh Power Station.
The site is located on the boundary of the Snowdonia National Park, a pumped storage plant in Ffestiniog, from the First Hydro Company – recognised as “one of the UK’s most dynamic electricity generators.”
Upon initial inspection of the original CAT generators in 2017, it was evident that significant repair work was required in order to restore the units to satisfactory condition. Further inspection of the acoustic covers made it apparent that the units were beyond repair. Prolonged deterioration had rendered the units unsafe and outside legislation guidelines. The extent of the repairs required was so large that the more practical and economically viable option was to simply replace the units.
The welsh power station required the removal of the two existing CAT diesel generators, these were then replaced with two brand-new YorPower 550kVA generators to provide a reliable backup power system. YorPower also carried out the pipework installation required to link the two generators on either side of the powerstation.
Ffestiniog were able to take advantage of the all-encompassing service YorPower offers it’s clients – including design, manufacture, installa-tion and commission.
