North London Data Centre Chooses YorPower
March 20, 2018
A major North London data centre, delivering mission critical facilities located in and around London’s metropolitan area, has chosen YorPower to provide emergency backup power for one of its centres. The company’s focus is on site diversity following the points of the compass and its expansion plans continue to deliver premium carrier-neutral data centre capacity to ensure customers can expand their footprint as their businesses grow.
The company’s expanding portfolio currently comprises approximately 100 MW in 39,700 sq mt of data centre space in outer London Zone 5, interconnected to key sites in London by 22 Tier I and Tier II carriers.
Opened in early 2011, the data centre is designed to meet the growing demand for scalable, reliable, on-demand colocation services. Its flexible configuration offers customers a wide range of choice on how their IT solutions are deployed, from a single rack to a bespoke data centre suite.
YorPower were awarded the second phase of a ‘Generator Design and Build’ contract in May 2017. YorPower’s sister business, (PPSPower) previously supplied 3 gensets when the data centre first opened, over 10 years ago.
The second phase installation included the design, build, testing, supply and delivery of a 2.5mVA Perkins powered genset rated at 11kV. YorPower operated as the main contractor and had day to day responsibility for all sub-contractors, health and safety and CDM.
Works included the installation of new HV power cable, an 11kV transformer, site fabrication of a steel platform, a 36,000 litre steel bulk fuel tank and a fuel polishing system. The 2,500kVA genset was carefully craned into position by a retained YorPower contract lift specialist.
Commissioning takes place in early April and involves mains synching, generator to generator paralleling, full systems check and a full site load test.
This latest installation builds on a growing number of previous data centre projects where YorPower has proved its ability to design, build and install bespoke power solutions for critical applications.
