YorPower UPS Installation at a Shopping Centre
Overview
YorPower was approached by a Shopping Centre in Leeds to supply and install a new Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system for a server cabinet within their premises. This was not our first engagement with the site—YorPower already holds the maintenance contract for all nine UPS systems currently installed across the centre.
Client Requirement.
The client required a compact, efficient UPS unit capable of providing reliable backup to essential IT infrastructure, including servers and telephone switches, within a server cabinet.
Our Solution
YorPower recommended the 3kVA YP-Sustain UPS, fitted with six internal 12V 9Ah batteries. Given the installation location—at the base of a server cabinet—our rackmount design was an ideal solution, offering the required power capacity within a space-saving form factor.
Execution
- Lead Engineer: Jack McMean
- Supporting Apprentice: James O’Neill
- The UPS installation was carried out professionally with a strong emphasis on training and knowledge transfer, as part of our commitment to developing engineering talent.
- An external bypass switch was also installed, allowing full electrical isolation of the UPS for future maintenance without interrupting the client’s critical load.
Timeline
From receipt of the purchase order, the unit was delivered, installed, and commissioned within four days, showcasing our commitment to rapid, responsive service.
Outcome
The system now provides robust power backup for the site’s IT infrastructure, and its seamless integration into the server cabinet allows easy future access for service and maintenance.
Ongoing Support
YorPower continues to support the Shopping Centre through our existing maintenance agreement, covering all UPS systems on-site, including this newly installed YP-Sustain UPS.
Challenges
This project was straightforward, with no unexpected complications. The installation proceeded smoothly and on schedule.
