YorPower Achieves Gold Sustainability Status
November 17, 2023
We are delighted to have achieved Gold status in the Supply Chain Sustainability School!
The Supply Chain Sustainability School is a collaboration between clients, contractors and their supply chains with the aim of becoming more sustainable in all areas of business. The school provides a free virtual learning platform around sustainability, with the aim to upskill those working within, or aspiring to work within, the built environment sector.
Learning covers the three core pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and economic – looking at key issues ranging from carbon management through to combatting modern slavery. The overall vision of the school is for “an industry where everyone will have the skills and knowledge to deliver a sustainable future”.
We have been a member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School since 2014. Using the school has enabled the team to improve in the three core pillars, assessing our performance along the way and access training resources to help them improve:
- Management
- Sustainability
- People
On our journey to achieving Gold status, YorPower has accessed over 75 hours of training. The company is now ranked above average in all areas, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement.
YorPower is continually looking for new initiatives to offer our specialist workforce the best possible working environment, with practices that are sustainable and value-adding in all areas of the business.
To this end, we have recently completed an Employee Engagement Programme, with an in-depth consultation conducted for the entire team, regardless of their role in the business. Our leadership team is now using these findings to further improve its performance in the people category of the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
YorPower is also a member of the 5% Club. Founded in 2013, this is a dynamic movement of employer-members working to create a shared prosperity across the UK by driving ‘earn and learn’ skills training opportunities. This means that we now ensure at least 5% of our workforce are apprentices. In addition, 10% of our workforce are currently ex-forces, including Managing Director Stephen Peal; therefore, YorPower is registered as a forces-owned business.
Regarding the company’s aim to be a net zero business, we’re also working closely with NeutralCarbonZone, the full-service platform that gives companies the tools they need to make the transition to a carbon neutral business and beyond.
Earlier in 2023, YorPower received a Silver Certification for its efforts to become carbon neutral. This means that all scope 1, 2 and 3 of our organisational emissions have been calculated in accordance with ISO 14064 and the GHG Protocol corporate standard and have been offset using ICROA approved carbon offset credit to ensure all currently unavoidable emissions have been balanced.
